CARPET-STRAW MAT

Carpet-Straw Mat Atelier is responsible for maintenance and repair of the straw mats on the floors of some palaces, kiosks, and pavilions and keeping the atelier records (documentation, rapport, atelier record notebook) of the works performed. Straw maintenance and repair includes determination of missing pieces after cleaning and completing with suitable materials and reinforcing the weak parts.

 

 
 
 

 

CHANDELIER

The Chandelier Atelier performs maintenance, repair and restoration works of the antique illumination elements of the palaces, kiosks and pavilions, such as chandeliers, candesticks, ceiling hangers, wall apliques, brackets, etc. The works include disassembling and cleaning the objects, determining the missing and damaged parts of the objects to repair them with suitable materials and equipment, preserving their original shape, size and functionality, providing the operation of the electricity installation and assembling the objects. Repairing the crystal pieces, metal pieces and other pieces of the illumination and architectural elements to be repaired is also under the atelier’s responsibility. The atelier is also responsible for renewing the electricity installation of the chandelier or candlestick, disassembled for general maintenance and keeping the atelier records (documentation, report, atelier record notebook) of the works.

 

 

 

 

 

CLOCK RESTORATION

Clock Restoration Atelier is responsible for maintenance and repair of the antique clocks and  remanufacturing their missing pieces, keeping their originality, making periodical controls of the clocks and ensuring them to be in a running state and keeping the atelier records (documentation, rapport, atelier record notebook) of the works. Clock Restoration Atelier is also responsible for controlling the conditions of the objects to be exhibited at home and abroad.

FURNISHING

Furnishing Atelier is responsible for coating the ceilings of our palaces, kiosks and pavilions with ceiling cloth, performing furnishing works of antique furniture with upholstery, preserving their original fabric structures and patterns which are in the Collection of National Palaces such as armchairs, couches and chairs. Furnishing works include repairs of column, spring and sponge and reupholstering fabric or leather, after unstitching. Determination of necessary upholstery fabrics for the repairs, conducting related market researches, contacting with Hereke Factory, when necessary, are also amongst the duties of the atelier.

 

 

 
 
 
FURNITURE RESTORATION

The Furniture Restoration Atelier restores the antique furniture, applied with boulle, maraquetry, mother of pearl and ivory, such as armchairs, tables, etageres, cabinets, chairs, consoles, coffee tables, etc., included within the Collection of National Palaces. Furniture restoration involves applications such as frame repair using suitable material preserving the original form and ornament of the object, upholstery and completion of the missing parts. Besides, remanufacturing of some furniture keeping its originality and keeping the atelier records (documentation, rapport, atelier record notebook) of these works are within the responsibilities of the atelier. The atelier also repairs and remanufactures some wooden parts of the architectural elements. Packaging and shipment operations of the objects are carried out by the atelier besides restoration applications.

 

 
 
 
 
 
 

 

LOCKSMITH

The primary duty of the Locksmith Atelier is to maintain and repair the antique locks, handles and knockers and manufacture in accordance with their originality. Besides, the atelier performs several mechanical activities such as manufacturing of keys, adjustments of door hydraulics, machine repairs, bollard repairs, various welding, turning, milling, grinding, leveling etc. and gives a support service to the other restoration ateliers in restoration works.

 

 
 

 

METAL RESTORATION

Metal Restoration and Conservation Atelier performs restorations of the objects with metal content included in the Collection of National Palaces such as sculptures, coffee tables, medals, guns and tableware. Works include surface cleaning of the objects by mechanical or chemical methods, assembling the pieces keeping their original shape and ornament and completing the missing parts by molding with similar materials. The atelier is also responsible for evaluating the conservation conditions of the objects coming in or going out of (domestic or abroad) the institution for exhibition purposes and keeping the atelier records (documentation, rapport, atelier record notebook) of the works. The personnel in charge at the palaces, kiosks and pavilions are trained by atelier’s staff regarding the basic conservation issues. 

 

 

 
 

 

MOTHER OF PEARL

Mother of Pearl Atelier is responsible for the restoration of the details such as boulle, maraquetry, mother of pearl, ivory and tortoiseshell applied on wooden objects such as tables, cabinets, chairs, consoles, etc., included in the Collection of National Palaces Head of Department and to keep the atelier records (documentation, rapport, atelier record notebook) of the works. The works involve remanufacturing of missing or damaged parts in a geometrical and scaled manner, keeping the original size, shape and ornament, for adding them to the main component. Also the researches related to the procurement of the materials suitable for restoration are conducted by the atelier staff.

  

 
 
 
 

       

PAINTING RESTORATION

Painting Restoration and Conservation Atelier is in charge of restoring the paintings included within our collection, making periodical controls and maintenances of paintings, plates and photograph warehouses and  keeping the atelier records (documentation, rapport, atelier record notebook) of the work performed. Evaluation of conditions of the objects going out of (domestic or abroad) the institution for exhibition purposes and determining those objects are amongst the duties of the atelier. Also, the personnel in charge at the palaces, kiosks and pavilions are trained by atelier’s staff regarding the basic conservation issues.

 

 
 
 

 

PORCELAIN-GLASS RESTORATION

Porcelain-Glass Restoration and Conservation Atelier, restores the objects made of ceramic, glass, porcelain, marble, ivory and the ones with decorative stones, involved in the Collection of National Palaces. Restoration works include putting the pieces together using suitable and recycled materials, preserving their original form and pattern, completing the missing parts and the esthetical processes. The atelier is also responsible for surface cleaning, packaging and shipment of the objects to be exhibited, evaluating the conservation conditions of the objects going out (domestic or abroad) for exhibition purposes and keeping the atelier records (documentation, rapport, atelier record notebook) of the works. The personnel in charge at the palaces, kiosks and pavilions are trained by atelier’s staff regarding the basic conservation issues related to porcelain and glass objects.

TAILOR-CURTAIN

Tailor-Curtain Atelier performs maintenance, repair, restoration and renewal works of historical objects such as curtain, tulle curtain, roller blind, belonging to the National Palaces Head of Department. Antique curtains and tulle curtains are restored with recyclable materials and equipment preserving their original shapes, sizes and patterns. Manufacturing for renewal purposes of the imitation curtains and roller blinds of palaces, kiosks and pavilions and mounting these productions to their places are also amongst the duties of the atelier. Conducting a market research for the fabric samples, required for manufacturing purposes and ensuring communication during procurement are tasks performed by the atelier staff.

 

 
 
 
 

 

TEXTILE RESTORATION

Textile Restoration and Conservation Atelier is responsible for restoration and conservation of the textile materials, except carpets, including dresses, folding screens, upholstery fabric, curtains, roller blinds, embroidered pictures, prayer rugs, bedspreads and determining the conservation conditions of the objects coming in or going out of (domestic or abroad) the institution for exhibition purposes and keeping the atelier records (documentation, rapport, atelier record notebook) of the restorations. Works include surface cleaning of the objects by mechanical methods, assembling the pieces keeping their original shape and ornament and completing the missing parts using similar materials. Also, training the personnel, in charge at the palaces, kiosks and pavilions, regarding the basic conservation issues and determining the need of any kind of material related to the restoration and ensuring their procurement are amongst the duties of the atelier.

 

 
 
 
 
 

 

TILED STOVE

The Tiled Stove Atelier is responsible for repairing tiled and ceramic stoves included in our collection and keeping the atelier records (documentation, rapport, atelier record notebook) of these works. Works include bringing pieces together using suitable materials, making interior stucco-sheeting-mud connections, accomplishing esthetical completion preserving the original shapes and patterns. The works such as drawing and assembling in course of piecing together the demounted stoves in the warehouses are also amongst the tasks of the atelier.

 

 

 

TURNING LATHE

The Wood-Turn Atelier remanufactures the missing or damaged parts of the objects, (armchair, couch, table, cabinet, chair, console, etc.) which underwent necessary restoration process, by turning, preserving their original shapes and patterns. The Atelier gives a support service by accomplishing turnery works of the furniture manufactured at the Furniture Restoration Atelier and is responsible for keeping the atelier records (documentation, rapport, atelier record notebook) of the works. They also manufacture the wooden pieces of the architectural elements.
